TYPES OF WEAVES

There are three fundamental types of textile weaves;

Twill, Plain and Satin

Twill weave

Twill has a pattern of diagonal parallel ribs.The pattern is made by passing the weft thread over one or more warp threads, then under two or more warp threads resulting in a  'step' between rows, thus creating a diagonal pattern.

Satin weave

Satin has a pattern of 'floating' threads.The pattern is made made passing four or more weft threads floating over a warp yarn and four or more warp yarns floating over  a weft yarn. Satin weave gives a lustrous glossy surface to the face side

Plain weave

Plain or Tabby is a simple criss-cross pattern. The pattern is made by passing each weft thread over and under each warp thread, alternating with each row thus creating a plain

balanced pattern.

At Alice Dean we only print what we need,

that means our products are produced in small quantities

to sell through to our customers.

We do not hold unlimited stock nor discarded or discontinue products each season, thus not creating any unnecessary waste.

We digitally print our fabrics which is one of the more eco-friendly print processes in the UK textile industry today.

Printing direct to the fabric means less waste of surplus

inks and water.
The inks used by our printers are certified Azo dye-free.
